Shared Reality

Did you know more than 90% of communication is nonverbal? 🤯 Your body language speaks louder than words–especially among professionals. Whether leading meetings, negotiating deals, or working with your team, the way you carry yourself can make or break your message.

Over the years, I’ve learned that mastering body language isn’t about theatrics—it’s really all about connections, trust, and confidence. When these things align, amazing things happen. 🌟
Here are a few tips to make your nonverbal signals work for you:

👉 Tip #1: Build rapport with open and engaging gestures
People pick up on subtle signals—whether or not you’re aware of them! Keep your torso facing the person you’re speaking with and use open body language (e.g., no crossed arms). A strong yet warm handshake and purposeful nods will convey trust. For example, when I met a prospective client, I mirrored their posture subtly. This created a connection, and we were able to build trust instantly. Try it the next time you meet someone new—you’ll be amazed at the results. 😊

👉 Tip #2: Use your body to project confidence
Do you fidget during a presentation? Maybe avoid eye contact? These small behaviors can undermine your authority. Instead, stand tall, move with intention, and make direct (but not intimidating) eye contact. I’ll never forget the difference this made for me during a big pitch. I focused on slowing down my movements and using my hands to emphasize key points. The feedback? “You really looked like you owned the room.” 🏆 Confidence is contagious—people feel it!

👉 Tip #3: Become a body language detective
Reading the nonverbal cues of others can give you a huge advantage. For instance, watch for signs like crossed arms (a subtle barrier) or quick shifts of posture (potential discomfort). By tuning in, you can redirect a conversation or adjust and rebuild rapport.

One time, in a team meeting, I noticed a colleague point their feet toward the door—a clear “I’m out” signal. By asking for their input, I pulled them back into the discussion. 💡

The beauty of body language is that it’s universal and adaptive, but here’s the secret—it works best when it’s authentic to you. Over-rehearsed gestures can come across as disingenuous. Instead, focus on being present, intentional, and self-aware. See https://lnkd.in/gzd4b68d.

And remember, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s connection. 🌍
